Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

This is only a tiny part of Martin Luther King's great speech that was given in August of 1963. I was a little girl then and I remember that summer very well, I even remember the riots of those times. Just reading these words gives me goosebumps still. How terrible those times were, I remember my mom being afraid that there would be riots where we lived in NYC, and she worried we would get caught up in them somehow. I know there is still a long road ahead but I like to think that we have come very far in these past years. I wish our newly elect president Obama the best of luck and May God Bless him and his family. I hope that the Reverend ML King is looking down and smiling at our great nation.

I believe everyone has as well. It's nice to see a nation willing to change their ways and open their minds to new ideas :o)

Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new era in American history. I share your hopes for President Obama's administration and hope that prosperity and optimism are on the way back to America before too very long.

Amen. I almost feel sorry for Obama, though. I just hope people aren't building him up to god-like proportions, only to be disappointed when he turns out, at the end of the day, to be only a man, capable of doing only so much, to the best of his abilities. He's been handed a mess. With any luck, he can help us dig out of it.
